The Practice--Make Way for Super Music

Image
photo by Patricia Herlevi (Conclusion of the book Whole Music Soul Food for the Mind Body Spirit) Super Music verses Junk Music (Excerpt) Like many other Americans, I spent my childhood eating junk food and listening to pop music.   Both the junk food and commercial music provided quick fixes and temporary comfort followed by agitation and hyperactivity later.   While food allergies and sensitivities increase in our society, I developed sensitivities to heavily programmed music without a strong melody or natural rhythms (in sync with the natural heartbeat).   I escaped into the worlds of jazz, classical, folkloric, and indigenous music.   However, some pop music, such as the Beatles with strong melodies and interwoven harmonies provides its own type of healing. In my twenties, I gravitated towards alternative rock.   It’s as if I needed to evolve spiritually, physically, and intellectually before I could appreciate music genr...

The Practice--Power of Words in Shaping Reality

Image
The Beatles, Wikipedia, All You Need is Love If you practice metaphysics or consider yourself new age then you are familiar with the power of words.  Similar to music, words contain vibrations and those vibrations shape our perceptions of reality.  I have also noticed that when you listen to a particular song, you carry the vibration of that song in your body, not to mention the effects are amplified each time your brain repeats the melody and words of the song. Some people don't care about the "reality" they create and they also don't wish to take responsibility for what they create with their words, thoughts, emotions and perceptions.  I'm not addressing that crowd.  I prefer to address those of you who are on the road to mastership of co-creating and prefer to empower yourself with words, music, and sound vibrations.  Most of us may never reach mastership, but why not take the journey anyway and grow more conscious each day on the journey? As a musici...

In review--Tuning Frequencies

Sound Healing Jonathan and Andi Goldman Chakra Frequencies   Destiny Books Cosmic Hum Tara Trance   Healing Sounds The full title of the Goldman’s book, Chakra Frequencies (Tantra of Sound) might give the impression of tantric sex or that the book is just for partners.  However, as the Goldmans explain in the introduction of the book, in the Hindu and especially, the Buddhist tradition, Tantra refers to Unity Consciousness.  If you’re seeking a sexy book, this isn’t it, but for anyone just discovering sound healing or working with chakras, or even practicing sound healers will enjoy the chant practices featured here.  I have encountered the vowel sound and Bija chants in sound healing and voice workshops I took in the past, but I enjoyed the narrative style of the book and hearing about the chants used in practical everyday situations as well as, esoteric ones. And that’s just it.  Sound healing acts as a won...

The Practice--Raise your frequency with music

Image
photo: Patricia Herlevi Whether or not the experts have interpreted the Mayan Prophesies correctly, or that we truly understand quantum physics, many of us feel that we live in multiple dimensions.  In this belief system, we believe that lower vibrations or frequencies are the equivalent of hell on earth and the higher frequencies, heaven. Lower frequencies include anger, fear, mistrust, outrage, sadness, grief, and frustration, to name a few emotions.  I'm certainly not saying that we should not allow ourselves to feel darker emotions, only to acknowledge those heavy densities and find a modality to clear them from our mind-body-souls.  If watching the news causes you to feel helpless and hopeless, then stop watching or reading the news.  Chances are the media, corporations, and even governments choose to pass along this helplessness and hopelessness like a contagious virus.  And low frequencies are contagious, along with heavy and disruptive. Some...
